Dr. Weller received
an Honours BSc in Physics and his PhD in Experimental Space Science from
York University in Toronto in 1984.
Following a brief
stay at the David Dunlap Observatory in Toronto, he moved to the Cerro
Tololo InterAmerican Observatory in La Serena Chile. There for 8 years
he was responsible for the optical and mechanical performance of the
telescopes, as well as conducting research on Planetary Nebulae, the
late stages of stellar evolution.
Following two years
as Optical Scientist at the Gemini 8 Metre Telescopes, he moved to
Vancouver Island where he taught Introductory Astronomy and Laboratory
Physics at Malaspina University College.
After retirement
from Malaspina University College he spends his time sailing, building
canoes and telescopes, mushroom hunting, and volunteering with the
Nanaimo Power Squadron and Literacy Central.
In his spare time he
likes to relax and try to understand the nature of time, and the
connection between quantum mechanics and the Universe in general.
