Biography

Born in Washington State, Guy Monty immigrated to Canada in the 1980’s.  He worked in forestry in coastal BC and managed an organic ranch in the BC interior before turning a life-long interest in natural history into a career in wildlife consulting.  Since 1996, he has worked as a wildlife technician specializing in birds.  Guy has done field work in some of the most remote and wild areas remaining in BC.  Much of his work is now centred on impact assessments for the rapidly growing wind energy sector in BC.  For more than a decade, Guy has worked and volunteered as part of the Parksville-Qualicum Brant Conservation Project.  Since 2005, he has been involved with volunteer projects related to resident Canada Geese in the Parksville-Qualicum area.

Guy  is a past president of the Nanaimo Field Naturalists, a former director of the Federation of BC Naturalists and is very active in the Christmas Bird Count program in BC.  He is a long time supporter of the Nature Trust of BC and its conservation initiatives.  Guy has led and co-led many different tours for The Nature Trust, The Brant Wildlife Festival and The Wildlife Viewing Network in the past including Seeking a Balance, Photography with Tony Markle, Herring Spawn and pelagic trips as well.  He is currently a director with the Mt. Arrowsmith Biosphere Reserve Foundation and the British Columbia Field Ornithologists.
