Seven  stalwart birders met on a very rainy morning in January to walk the ponds at the Fairwinds Golf Course. The ducks were numerous but birds few.  We were delighted to find that the Greater White –fronted Goose was still amongst the Canada Geese.

There were 3 Eurasian Widgeons with the many American Widgeons that winter here.
We found a Lesser Scaup amongst the Ring-necked Ducks.  There were several pairs of Buffleheads and as many pairs of Mallards. We saw 5 Common Mergansers,  2 Hooded Mergansers and the local Mute Swans.
The storm had brought in a number of Glaucous-winged Gulls and 1 Herring Gull..

1 Bald Eagle was the only bird of prey.
Land birds seen were a flock of Band-Tailed Pidgeons  and a Northern Flicker. Perching birds included Golden-crowned Kinglet,  Chestnut-Backed Chickadee, Winter Wren, Fox Sparrow,  Song Sparrow,  Stellar Jay, Towhee ,Starlings, and  the inevitable  Crows.
